This policy explains how Limena handles personal information when you use the Limena mobile app, this website, and related support services (together, the “Service”). It is written to describe the product as it operates today; it does not replace any rights you may have under applicable law.

Information we handle
Information you provide in the app
Limena may handle the information you choose to provide or create while using the app, including your first name, age range, target and meaning languages, regional and voice preferences, learning level, and the content of your language practice. Practice content can include text replies, transcripts, saved phrases, scenarios, corrections, and the audio you choose to record or send during a speaking session.
Information generated as you use Limena
We process learning information such as completed lessons and practice, progress signals, saved material, selected settings, and a device-generated identifier. Limena uses this to run the Service, keep a language path coherent, and tailor future practice to the language you are working on.
Technical and usage information
When you use the Service, our systems and service providers may receive technical information such as device and app information, IP address, timestamps, request data, crash or diagnostic information, and limited usage information. The app stores a randomly generated device identifier in secure device storage to distinguish its service requests without requiring a traditional username and password.
Permissions and device storage
Limena requests microphone access for speaking activities and may request speech-recognition permission to show your words as you speak. You can refuse or revoke these permissions in your device settings; some speaking features will not work without them. The app also stores certain content locally on your device, including settings, activity history, saved items, and audio cached for replay.
How we use information
We use information to provide, maintain, and improve the Service. This includes:
- running lessons, practice, live conversations, feedback, and progress features;
- adapting practice to your selected language, level, region, and prior work;
- responding to questions, support requests, and reports of a problem;
- protecting the Service, preventing abuse, and managing access and limits; and
- meeting legal obligations and enforcing our terms.
We do not sell your conversation content or use it to serve you interest-based ads. If you use an ad-supported version of Limena, the advertising provider may process information as described in its own privacy documentation and your device’s advertising and consent settings.
When information is shared
We use service providers to operate Limena. Depending on the feature you use and the configuration available in your version of the app, this can include:
- AI and speech providers that process the text or audio necessary to generate a reply, transcription, translation, practice feedback, or pronunciation assessment;
- hosting and database providers that operate the Service and store the data needed to keep it available;
- mobile platform providers, such as Apple or Google, for app distribution, in-app purchases, and platform services; and
- advertising providers for the ad-supported free version, where applicable.
These providers may process information on our behalf or under their own terms for the specific service they provide. We may also disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law, protect rights and safety, investigate fraud or abuse, or as part of a reorganisation or transfer of the Service.
A note about AI features: What you say or type in an AI-powered activity is sent to the provider needed to answer that request. Do not include sensitive personal, financial, health, or confidential information in language practice unless you are comfortable with that processing.
Your choices and privacy rights
You can change many preferences in the app, deny or revoke microphone and speech permissions in your device settings, and delete locally stored content through available app controls or by removing the app from your device. Deleting the app removes locally stored data from that device, subject to your device platform’s normal behaviour and backups.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to ask for access to, correction of, deletion of, or a copy of personal information, or to object to or restrict certain processing. To make a request, email [email protected] from the address you want us to use for the request and include enough detail for us to understand it. We may need to verify that the request relates to the relevant device or records before acting on it.
If advertising consent options are available in your app, you can use them to manage applicable ad choices. Your mobile operating system may also provide advertising and tracking controls.
Retention and security
We keep information for as long as reasonably needed to provide the Service, maintain your learning state, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and protect the Service. The app limits certain local histories and caches to keep device storage from growing indefinitely; retention can therefore vary by feature.
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organisational safeguards designed to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
International processing
Limena and its providers may process information in countries other than the one where you live. Those countries may have data-protection laws that differ from your own. Where required, we take steps intended to support lawful cross-border transfers.
Children
Limena is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe a child has provided personal information to Limena, contact us so we can investigate and take appropriate action.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Limena changes or as laws require. We will post the updated version here and change the effective date. If a change is material, we will provide additional notice where required.
